Photo by Chris Andrew of Stoptime341As a consultant, I work on projects of all sizes, providing facilitation, conflict resolution and mediation, crisis management, strategic planning, HR and organizational infrastructure support, communications and relationship strengthening, and employment search support, all with the goal of centering learning, participation, and trust. For more than 20 years, I have worked across the philanthropic, arts, education, corporate, social justice, and social service sectors, carrying forward a deep commitment to community growth, relationship-building, and advocacy. Through a racial equity lens, my work centers those most impacted by disinvestment and systemic oppression, ensuring communities are at the forefront of decision-making and driving meaningful social change.
I started off learning and loving dance. Movement has informed my practice by helping me think about space before I enter a room, whether it be a conference room, classroom, community center, courtroom, cathedral, or concert hall. In dance, you learn to read the room before entering; sensing energy, dynamics, and existing relationships. You understand how bodies move in space: who has room to move, who's constrained, where the power and flow are. You know where you fit without disrupting, entering without centering yourself, and you feel the existing rhythm before adding your own movement.
This translates directly to my consulting work. I assess the landscape first, understanding the culture, power dynamics, and relationships before intervening. I recognize who has space and voice, including myself, and seeing who's centered and who's not in the conversation. My presence should create space, not take it.
